HGPS Institute Committee welcomes keynote speaker Ronnie Levine, PhD, ABPP, CGP, FAGPA and ethics presenter Denise O’Doherty, PhD for the 2020 Institute.
Thoughts from Ronnie Levine on the 2020 Institute topic Managing Love and Hate in Groups:
Managing Love and Hate in Groups is a daunting subject to approach. These feelings encompass such a wide range of emotional experiences. We can experience these feelings in ourselves, with and from our patients, with our most intimate relationships, and with society at large. In any of these areas, these feelings can overwhelm us, and sometimes they can become destructive. But these feelings can also be enlivening— a source of creativity and vitality. I think it is one’s life task to find a way to manage these feelings in order to have a fulfilling life. This institute will explore how we can become more comfortable and more effective with working with these uncomfortable feelings. We will study fears that interfere with being effective, and therapeutic approaches. We will also examine different kinds of relating — and we may look at how destructive forces are being played out in the social arena.
